Elgin Energy is proud to have joined the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme, in addition to its own internship and graduate programmes.
Elgin Energy joined the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme this year providing a 3-month summer internship on the development team to Faruq Sulaimon. Faruq is a second year Mechatronic Engineering student at DCU.
“The Access programme not only provides suitable work experience, which can be difficult to secure, it also provides knowledge and assistance in terms of CV and interview preparation and what to expect in an office environment. My internship at Elgin Energy has introduced me to each area of the business. I have been working closely with colleagues on the graduate programme and they have been sharing their knowledge and guiding me through the process. My role is focused on site selection and assessing project feasibility. I am working on a broad range of tasks and enjoy the diversity and challenge of the work. I believe that the solar industry is essential as we need to not only reduce carbon emissions but also produce power that is infinite and the solar industry can do both.” – Faruq Sulaimon
The Access to the Workplace programme was launched in 2019 to provide Access students with a high-quality, fully paid professional internship at some of Ireland’s leading companies during the summer months.
Since its introductory year, 58 leading Irish companies have supported 64 Access students by providing them with a professional internship during the summer, whilst also making a philanthropic contribution to support Access scholarships at DCU.
The programme has been very successful to date with 94% of participating students advising they would have been unable to achieve an equivalent internship without the programme. 83% of students reported an increased understanding of skills and qualities and all participating students would recommend the programme to fellow students.
In addition to the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme, Elgin Energy operates its own internship and graduate programmes, with the graduate programme boasting a 100% retention rate thus far. As per our recently released Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) policy, Elgin Energy is committed to paying interns and graduates the living wage and market rate, respectively.
We are proud to support the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme and look forward to an on-going successful partnership.
