ROME, Italy, April 3, 2025: Elgin has officially entered the Italian market with the opening of its new office in the heart of Rome and a partnership with Rinascita Holding. This marks a major milestone for Elgin as it brings its track record of delivering high-impact solar and storage projects across Europe to one of the continent’s most dynamic and promising renewable energy markets. This expansion follows Elgin’s strategic partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) in 2024, which saw CIP acquire a majority stake in Elgin and commit investment to accelerate the company’s growth across existing and new markets.

Located on Via del Tritone, the new office is already home to a growing team. With key hires across development, operations, legal, and grid connection roles, the team will continue to expand in the coming months, supported by Elgin’s offices in Dublin and London. The Italian team is expected to grow to 15 members by 2029.

Elgin is targeting a 3GW+ development pipeline in Italy by 2030, with a strong focus on co-located Agri-PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in addition to traditional solar and standalone BESS projects. Land origination will be driven by trusted local introducers, and Elgin will continue to pursue co-development opportunities with key partners across the country. The newly signed partnership with Rinascita Holding represents the first step in this strategy, with the co-development of a 200MW BESS project in the Umbria region now underway. The project is expected to require a capital investment of approximately €200m and will play a vital role in supporting grid stability and renewable energy integration in central Italy.

“Our expansion into Italy is a natural progression for Elgin,” said Ronan Kilduff, CEO of Elgin. “With Italy being the second-largest solar energy producer in Europe and having a clear commitment to clean energy targets, the timing couldn’t be better. We’re bringing not just technical expertise and investment but a commitment to local partnerships and a deep respect for the regions we operate in. With a focus on innovative technologies like Agri-PV and large-scale storage, we believe we can support Italy’s renewable ambitions in a way that also celebrates and protects its agricultural heritage.”

The launch of Elgin in Italy builds on the company’s growing portfolio in Europe and beyond, with active projects across the UK, Ireland, Germany and Australia. As always, Elgin’s values of excellence, care, agility, and integrity remain at the centre of its work.
